Victorian Stamp Duty Explained







Stamp duty is a charge which is applied by state governments in Australia and is in relation to the transfer of land. When buying a home and/or land, the duty payable may vary for investment properties, principal place of residence and there are also concessions available for some people also.

Bonus for Victorian First Home Buyers

From January 1, 2013 the Victorian government improved the existing 20% discount to 30% up to a full purchase price of $600,000.
The stamp duty reduction boosts to 40% on January 1, 2014 and subsequently to 50% on September 1, 2014.
