For those of you wanting to go Green Smart in 2014, or simply wanting to do your bit for the environment, here are some upcoming events you may be interested in.
From 12th February – Greening Kingston Workshops
The first workshop is in Cheltenham and will be for Rainwater Downpipe Diverters (with a local plumber teaching you how they help to water your garden). There are four more workshops which follow over the next two weeks. If you’re interested in attending one of these workshops, book fast: Contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 9581 4713 for further information.
Sunday 16th March – Detox Your Home
This free Detox Your Home household chemical collection will be taking place in Cheltenham with the address provided upon registration. If you have any unwanted or out-of-date household chemicals around your home then you can dispose of them at this safe, free and easy to use disposal service without harming your health or the environment. Simply throwing these chemical products out in your regular rubbish colection is not safe as they can explode, ignite, leak or mix with other chemicals. Pouring these chemicals down drains pollutes our waterways, harms animals and vegetation and contaminates our drinking water (for those of you who drink tap water, myself included!!). Registrations can be made at sustainability.vic.gov.au or by calling 1800 353 233
Saturday 29th March – Earth Hour
At 8:30pm on the 29th March, you can participate by celebrating a worldwide commitment to ongoing change for the benefit of our planet, Earth Hour. Start by switching off your lights followed by implementing actions and changes to be more conscious of energy use. For more information, visit earthhour.org.
